Erik Prusch was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2011 and was appointed a Director of Clearwire in February 2012. Prusch joined Clearwire in August 2009 as CFO and led the efforts to raise over 6 billion in equity and debt to fund the company's explosive growth. He was then promoted to COO in March 2011. During his tenure, revenue has increased by 427 percent to an annualized run rate of over $1.2 billion, the subscriber base has grown by 1,352 percent, and margins have improved by 80 percentage points through careful expense controls. Throughout his career, he has successfully enabled businesses through periods of rapid growth, operational scaling, and expansion financing. Prusch was most recently President and Chief Executive Officer of Borland Software, where he also previously served as Chief Financial Officer, leading the restructuring of the company and returning the business to profitability. Prior to Borland, he was Vice President of Finance in Intuit's Turbo Tax division. Prior to Intuit, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Identix Incorporated, and also served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Finance and Operations at Gateway Computers, Incorporated. He began his career at Touche Ross and PepsiCo. Prusch serves on the board of directors of Keynote, a global leader in Internet and mobile cloud testing and monitoring. Prusch holds a B.A. from Yale University, and earned an M.B.A. from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Hope Cochran, Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for the company's accounting, finance, tax, financial planning, treasury and investor relations functions. For the past two years Cochran has received FierceWireless' Most Influential Women in Wireless award. Prior to her role as CFO she was senior vice president of finance and treasurer for Clearwire. Since joining Clearwire in November 2005, Cochran has been instrumental in leading Clearwire through its IPO and raising 11.5 billion in debt and equity funding. Prior to Clearwire, Cochran served as CFO of Evant Incorporated, a Bay Area planning and logistics software developer that was subsequently sold to Manhattan Associates. While at Evant, Cochran oversaw all corporate finance, accounting, human resources, legal and facilities activities. Prior to this, Cochran served as Controller of the Americas Sales Operations for PeopleSoft Inc., a leading developer of enterprise software solutions for large corporations and governments that was later sold to Oracle. Before PeopleSoft, Cochran served as Founder and CFO of SkillsVillage, a contractor supply chain management software provider, until its sale to PeopleSoft. She began her career as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Cochran holds degrees in economics and music from Stanford University.
Dow Draper, Senior Vice President and General Manager Retail, holds profit and loss responsibility for the CLEAR retail business and directly oversees Sales, Marketing, Customer Care and Product Development. He most recently served the company as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product where he led marketing strategy, customer engagement, and product development for the CLEAR brand. Draper joined Clearwire in 2009 and brings with him almost 10 years of wireless industry experience. Prior to joining Clearwire, he held various roles at Alltel Wireless including Senior Vice President of Device and Data Services and Senior Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis. Draper was also a part of a small executive team that oversaw Alltel's sale to TPG and Goldman Sachs. Before Alltel, he worked at McKinsey and Company and was involved in strategic and marketing business engagements for various industries including Software, Automotive, Commercial Aviation and Telecommunications. Draper is a graduate of the University of Colorado - Boulder and holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
As Clearwire's senior vice president and general counsel, Broady R. Hodder is responsible for all legal matters at Clearwire. Prior to assuming his current role in May 2006, Hodder served as our vice president − legal, finance and corporate development, with primary legal responsibility for mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate matters. Hodder was also named corporate secretary in June 2006. Prior to Clearwire, Hodder was a partner with the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, a national law firm with more than 400 attorneys in nine offices across the U.S. and in Shanghai, China. While at Davis Wright Tremaine, Hodder advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate finance matters. Previously, Hodder was a lawyer with Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich LLP and Lionel Sawyer and Collins Ltd.
Scott Hopper, Senior Vice President of Strategic Business Development, is responsible for business development efforts across the company. His team drives commercial and vendor agreements, as well as joint venture and other strategic activities in support of Clearwire's operational objectives. Hopper joined Clearwire in 2005 and has more than 20 years of wireless industry experience. Prior to Clearwire, Hopper served as Vice President of Corporate Development for Western Wireless Corporation from 1999 until Western Wireless Corporation's sale to Alltel Corporation in 2005. Before the formation of Western Wireless, Hopper held corporate and business development roles within predecessor entity Pacific Northwest Cellular, where Hopper began his wireless career in 1991. He is a graduate of Hendrix College and holds an MBA from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University.
As Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Andrew Macaulay is responsible for Clearwire's IT strategy and providing software, infrastructure, desktop and communications services for the company and its customers. Before joining Clearwire, Macaulay was a Principal Consultant in the Telecom, Media and Entertainment practice of Capgemini US, responsible for delivery engagements to several large North American wireless service providers. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Level 3 Communications in many different IT and Network Engineering roles including Senior Vice President of IT Application Development & Maintenance and Senior Vice-President of Network Engineering. He started his career in technical and management IT positions with Sprint Long Distance. Originally from the UK, Macaulay holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Operations Research from the University of Leeds, England and an MBA from Baylor University, Texas.
As Clearwire's senior vice president - chief technology officer, John Saw, Ph.D., is the chief architect of the company's advanced wireless network. He joined Clearwire as its second employee in 2003 and was instrumental in scaling the company's technical expertise and organization. In 2009 and 2010, he led the Clearwire team that built the first nationwide 4G network in North America, covering more than 130 million people. Dr. Saw brings nearly 20 years of wireless experience to Clearwire, including pioneering work in the development and rollout of cellular infrastructure and microwave radio products. In addition, he was instrumental in developing AT&T Wireless' digital wireless broadband product, one of the earliest OFDM wireless systems deployed that foreshadowed the subsequent development of the OFDM-based 4G standards. Before Clearwire, Dr. Saw held key engineering and technology executive positions with Netro Corp (now SR Telecom), AT&T Wireless (now AT&T Inc.), and Nortel. He also holds six U.S. patents in wireless technologies.
Don Stroberg, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Wholesale, is responsible for managing Clearwire's Wholesale business as well as overseeing strategic investor relationships. His team actively pursues new wholesale and strategic commercial relationships and drives revenue and operational support for existing wholesale customers. Stroberg joined Clearwire in 2008 and has more than 15 years of wireless industry experience. Prior to Clearwire, Stroberg served in multiple roles at Sprint Nextel including Vice President of 4G Sales, Vice President of Customer Experience, and Vice President of Consumer Strategy & Business Development. Before Sprint Nextel, Stroberg was a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting's Telecommunications practice. He holds a BS Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Beth Taska has been a senior HR executive of Gap and Sears in Supply Chain and Retail. Prior to this, she led HR and Risk Management in several municipalities and has provided guidance and consulting to major global firms and not-for-profit organizations. Taska holds significant global experience developing people strategies: optimizing efficiency, processes, and procedures for talent management, recruitment, compensation, benefits, workers' compensation, safety, executive development and employee relations — creating cultures that work. Taska holds an MPA Honors from Roosevelt University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Honors from Northern Illinois University (Valedictorian and Magna Cum Laude). She is a Certified Mediator (Chicago Bar Association) and has presented HR professional development training globally. Taska is the Chairman of the Board for the not-for-profit San Francisco organization Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and is a member of the Mill Valley Library Board.
